The program is glad to announce that Jenifer Murphy, the President
of ACHESA, the
American College of Healthcare Executives Student Association (ACHESA),
the student chapter of ACHE at
James Madison University was the 2004 winner in the undergraduate
division of the Hill-Rom Management Essay Competition for her essay
titled “After 9/11:Elevating Bioterrorism Preparedness in Hospitals.”
This is the seventh time that a JMU HSA student has received the Hill-Rom
award in the last eight years.
Jen received a free trip to the ACHE Congress held in March 2004 in
Chicago, a gift voucher worth $3000 and her paper will be published
in the June/July issue of the Journal of Healthcare Management. Jen
says, “As the ACHESA President, and a graduating senior, I am
very nervous and excited about graduation and moving into the field
of health administration. ACHE offers lots of great networking opportunities
through the many different areas that health administration encompasses,
as well as lots of fun opportunities for continuing education.”

Any HSA senior student who is also a national member of ACHE is eligible
to participate in this competition held each fall. In the competition,
each Health Administration Program in the U.S. having an ACHE Student
Chapter submits one paper. If someone is interested in writing it,
they should contact Dr. Thompson. If more
than one person is interested, he will have each person submit a short
abstract on his or her topic of choice and then the selection will
be made by the HSA faculty.
