James Madison University

Program Description

On behalf of the faculty and staff I welcome you to the James Madison University Physician Assistant Program website.  We appreciate your interest in the program.  Among PA Programs this is a fairly small program, accepting one class per year of no more than 25 students.  This relatively small size allows students a great deal of access to faculty and provides the faculty with ample opportunity to work directly with students.

The university is located Harrisonburg, Virginia, a community of about 45,000 population situated in the midst of  the scenic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.  JMU is a university of about 18,000 students.

PAs fill positions across a broad spectrum of medical specialties and settings.  We welcome students with a wide variety of interests, backgrounds and abilities.  We intend that graduates will combine their interests and backgrounds with PA education and proceed to work in many types of positions, serving people from backgrounds with diverse healthcare needs and expectations.

We recognize that it may be difficult for candidates to decide on the PA program that best suits their personal situation.  We hope that this website will provide the information you seek.  If, however, you have additional questions, please contact us through any of the avenues listed under “Contact Us”.

Best regards,

Jim Hammond, MA, PA-C
PA Program Director
