JMU'S Health Services Administration Program
This concentration prepares the student for entry level administrative positions, and staff positions requiring administrative skills, in various health settings including hospitals, managed care organizations, long term care programs and ambulatory care organizations. The student is prepared to plan, organize, direct and control health programs and/or facilities. The health services administration program is not an open concentration; students must meet specific criteria for admission to the program. The criteria are available from the program director. The health services administration program is approved as a Full Certified undergraduate program by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). Important NEW Information
1) The Health Services Administration (HSA) Program is NOT an open major; students must complete an HSA Application and meet specific criteria for admission to the program including: completion of HTH 354 with a "B" or better, as well as a combined “B” average in three other courses (HTH 320, HSA 358 and HSA 365); a minimum of 25 hours of volunteering/employment in a health care facility with a recommendation letter from the supervisor of your volunteer service or work; and an interview for entrance with the HSA Program Director. A confirmation letter from the HSA Program Director will indicate your admission to the program.
2) HTH 450 and HTH 454 are for seniors only while HTH 458, HSA 452, HSA 455 and HSA 456 are recommended for seniors only.
3) A grade of “C” or better is required in all HTH and HSA courses while a grade of “D” is allowed in other subjects. A grade of “C” or better is required in all HSA courses prior to completing HSA 454, Internship in Health Administration.
