Message from the Department Chair

A warm spring greeting to our students and alums. Spring time in the valley often brings ever changing weather. Within a few days we can experience summer-like temperatures, drenching rains and even snow showers. The only thing that is predictable is the unpredictable nature of the weather. Much like the springtime weather, the Department of Health Sciences has been changing. Dr. Syre and Dr. Travis retired. Dr. Chisolm has moved on to a new career, and Dr. Stewart will be retiring in December of 2006. New faculty members have arrived. Programs have been created and modified. We now are home to more than one thousand undergraduate and graduate students. But through it all, some things have not changed. Our programs continue to flourish. Faculty members continue to produce research, secure grants, and provide outstanding classroom instruction. Students continue to win awards, secure exciting and challenging career opportunities and gain admission into a variety of professional programs. As you work your way through this issue of the department newsletter, you should feel a sense of pride in the fact that you are a part of this outstanding department. As we continue our journey into the twenty first century, encountering change around ever corner, let me assure you that one thing will remain constant. The Department of Health Sciences will continue to be home to outstanding programs, dedicated faculty members, bright students, and successful alums. I hope you enjoy this issue of our newsletter. Please feel free to email, call or visit the department. You will continue to find an open door and a friendly face.

Cordially,

Robert Koslow
