Student Paper Selected for Presentation
The Directed Research project of Stella Verdos, a graduate student in the Masters in Health Sciences program, Dietetics concentration, titled Adherence to the cardioprotective Mediterranean diet among men and women in a rural Greek population, has been accepted to be presented as an oral presentation at the MEDIET 2007, 3rd International Conference Traditional "Mediterranean Diet: Past, Present and Future" to be held between 25 and 26 April 2007, in Athens, Greece. The research co-chairs are Dr. Cynthia Cadieux and Dr. Tammy Wagner, faculty in the dietetics program, and Dr. Kristi Lewis, faculty in the Health Studies program. This research was supported by grants from the American Dietetic Association, the Virginia Dietetic Association, and the Office of International Programs.
Cadieux Chosen to Serve as Evidence Analyst
Dr. Cynthia Cadieux, faculty in the Dietetics program within Health Sciences, has been selected by The American Dietetic Association (ADA) to be an evidence analyst for the Evidence Analysis Library developed by the ADA. ADA's Evidence Analysis process was recognized by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as exemplary of bringing the best research to practice. ADA's Evidence Analysis process was adapted by the FDA to assess the type of qualified health claim that can be put on food labels and ADA's Scientific Affairs & Research staff has trained staff and task force members for USDA, DHHS, and FDA. Dr. Cadieux will collaborate with colleagues from around the nation virtually and face-to-face as they work to analyze the evidence behind various nutrition-related treatments.
