JMU Minor in Medical Spanish (watch a brief video)
The minor in Medical Spanish (18 credits) is designed for advanced level Spanish students who wish to broaden their vocabulary skills while using everyday practical situational Spanish. This minor gives students the tools they need to bridge the communication and cultural gaps with Spanish-speaking patients. With increasing numbers of these patients entering the healthcare system every year, it's more crucial than ever for health professionals to learn medical Spanish. This minor focuses not only in the necessary terminology medical personnel needs to know in a medical setting, but also the cultural context and particular sensibilities of Latino patients. Students gain a vast knowledge of medical Spanish terms, cultural aspects of medicine, and a confidence in using Spanish both spoken and written. For more information about this minor, check this link and email Professor Galarreta at firstname.lastname@example.org
